Rings from the Circus of the Lovely Hammer
I think of a rag tag circus troupe. These rings have pattern and movement .They-stack and balance. The imagined narrative goes something like this :Long long ago there was a town which was home to a curious and beautiful circus. The circus fueled the workings of the town and fed the people who lived there. Being a circus town, pageantry and play combined with art and music forming the spirit that held the circus town together.
This collection of rings, inspired by the circus town, is thought to have been made by the jeweler who lived there.
Stones in our Pockets
We all do it. Maybe it's our inner crow that makes us pick up rocks and stuff them in a pocket. The ranks of rock pickers thin as time goes on. We switch to jewelry. As I work I imagine Cleopatra in lapis, Conquistadors riding fast horses carrying bags of emeralds, the Hope diamond tossed around at the post office, and children looking for fossils after the city rocks the street. I have far too many rocks! I am grateful for the work of many hands that touch the stones before they cross my bench. They come from everywhere-opals from tiny hillside mines in Ethiopia, and opals blasted from the Earth in Australia. There are miners in Madagascar harvesting stones accessible only when the tide goes down , There are rock hounds searching in dark abandoned silver mines for turquoise. The movement of land masses, and the minerals seeping into cells of ancient trees make stones miracles. To the miners, the cutters, the polishers, and to the Earth I give thanks. I hope you enjoy wearing these rings with stones, and that your pockets may always hold a miracle!
