Welcome to Lovely Hammer, studio of narrative and art jewelry.
Narrative art work, unlike illustration is not static. The narrative artist gives us settings, characters, and the outline of a plot unfolding. After that, the story continues on its own. Each time the work engages the imagination of the viewer or its wearer, the story becomes richer. The little beasts inhabiting these works get invitations, deliver eye flowers and go on August journeys. They have friends, love fish and have many adventures ahead. Please enjoy the works on these pages and the stories told within.
Fire, ore, and stone The work here and on the following pages is made from silver, gold, copper, and gems using fabrication techniques.. With a jeweler's saw, I cut out many pieces and solder them together piece by piece. Along the way, the work is stamped with mostly handmade tools, hammered, folded, bent, polished, brushed, and oxidized. Where do you get your ideas .The work comes from my life so far and from things I enjoy. Animals and the spirit of animals, rusty farm implements, work by artisans of Early Christian Art, toys, illuminated manuscripts, travelers and circuses imagined.
I have been making jewelry and objects for more than thirty years. Future plans for Lovely Hammer include a retail location, with an on site studio, and classes. Please check for updates.
