These pendants were born following a visit with my sisters to an old dairy barn on our family farm. The cows are long gone. They were replaced with unending fields of corn and soy beans. We climbed a wooden ladder to the hay mow, revisited the milking stations and spent a lot of time reminiscing. It was a great day marked with nostalgia, humor and some sadness. The images from that day inspired this work.

I have found an entire industry carried out by rugged woodsmen with computer access. In March, elk, moose, and deer shed their antlers. The antlers are gathered by these entrepreneurs and sold online. I love the feel of the material, its origin, and ease of carving.
The pendant shown here combines very feminine colors with antler. |
