Fish pins and pendants start with a drawing. They are so fun to make. I first glue the drawing onto a sheet of silver, saw the bodies out, drill eye sized holes in another piece of metal, cut out the eyes around the holes, texture the fish with my handmade stamps, file and sand, solder on eyes, pickle, solder on loops or clutch backs, pickle again, polish, scrub off excess polishing compound, apply oxidizer, brush the polished piece with an abrasive, fuss around with the oxidation and brushed finish ,polish the back, clean off excess polishing compound again, sign the piece and eat some ice cream! It is not until the eyes are soldered in place that their true character emerges and I remind myself that making these fish is truly fun.
